A Note from the Counselor:

“I am super excited to meet my new school family- the students, staff, and parents, as I begin my role as the elementary school counselor. The best part about working with students is seeing them demonstrate the positive impact and growth (whether academically, socially, or behaviorally) that educators have when we work together collaboratively throughout the school year.”

What Does the Elementary School Counselor Do?

  • Our elementary school counselor regularly visits classrooms to lead age-appropriate lessons and activities focused on social skills, emotional awareness, teamwork, and problem-solving. Lessons often include games, stories, and hands-on activities that help students practice skills in a fun and supportive environment.

These classroom visits allow students to learn important life skills while building positive relationships with peers and adults.

  • Wolf Wins is a school-wide program that recognizes students for demonstrating positive character traits. Students may earn a Wolf Win for actions such as showing kindness, helping others, taking responsibility, or making good choices.

Wolf Wins encourage students to notice and practice positive behavior while reinforcing the values we strive to model every day at Newburg.

  • The elementary school counselor works with students individually or in small groups to support social-emotional growth. This may include helping students with friendship skills, managing emotions, building confidence, or navigating challenges at school.

Support is provided in a caring, student-centered manner and may involve collaboration with teachers and families when appropriate.

  • Our elementary school counselor also supports students and families through school-wide initiatives and community efforts. This includes organizing and assisting with charitable activities, coordinating access to school supplies, and helping ensure all students have the resources they need to be successful.

Counseling services at the elementary level extend beyond the classroom to support the whole child.
